Collective Worship

The SDBE states that collective church school worship provides everyone with the opportunity to:

╬ express praise and thanksgiving to God

╬ reflect on the attributes of God

╬ reflect on the teachings of Christ

╬ affirm Christian values and attitudes

╬ share each other's joys and challenges

╬ celebrate special times in the Christian calendar

╬ foster respect and unity deepen spiritual awareness

At Christ Church School there is a daily act of collective worship. Members of staff are expected to attend and deliver worship and all teaching staff are timetabled to lead worship throughout the year. There is a carefully mapped out worship plan for the whole year that links to our ethos and values, significant times in the Christian calendar and builds in time to reflect on Big Questions.

Our worship celebrates difference and encourages respect and dignity. It raises aspirations. Worship engages creatively with the school’s Christian vision and associated values showing respect for and giving dignity to all wherever they may be on their spiritual journey.

Pupils are able to use personal reflection across many areas of the curriculum. They are encouraged to explore some of the puzzling things that they see around them, for example in news stories. Praying together as a school is important especially in difficult times and also at regular set times in the school day.

The school has a clear and secure understanding of spiritual development that is distinguishable from social, moral and cultural development and is shared by staff. Progressively deeper opportunities exist across the curriculum which enable pupils to develop curiosity through questioning that helps them explore and articulate spiritual and ethical issues. Pupils value learning and enjoy questioning, listening and responding creatively across a range of subjects.
